Client: The Herald-Sun

Project: This was a 14-page special section to commemorate UNC's men's basketball national championship. The sports staff pulled an all-nighter the night of the championship game. We printed the regular daily section at about 1 a.m., and then put together the special section for a 5:30 a.m. press start. About half of the content for the special section did not arrive until after 1 a.m.

My Role

• Served as the point man on the special section, coordinating with various staff members to ensure a smooth production process
• Worked with writers to develop story ideas
• Designed two versions of the cover -- one for each of our circulation zones -- and three inside pages
• Edited the copy and assigned stories for the section

Other Information
The section received top-10 honors in the Associated Press Sports Editors Best Special Sections contest for newspapers in the 40,000-100,000 circulation range.
