Aside from how much fun it would be to spend Chinese New Year with my extended family in Guangzhou, China, here’s another reason to go:

That’s the front page of today’s Guangzhou Daily newspaper. Nevermind the Olympic story. The story at the top of the right column says “The next two days it will be as cold as 5 degrees Celsius”. That’s the equivalent of 41 degrees Fahrenheit, which has been about the high here in the Triangle for the last two weeks. The story goes on to say that the city of Guangzhou has issued a cold weather warning. The forecasted high there the next few days is about 50, and this is front-page news like the DC snowstorm is here in the U.S.! What I won’t give for 50-degree weather right now.
