USEFUL RESOURCES FOR SOME, USELESS RANTS FOR OTHERS

Lance Moore makes a mistake and accidentally produces some yards.

Another week, another underwhelming performance by my supposedly “good” fantasy team, the one that still leads the league in scoring yet is about to fall to 7-8 after putting up a meager 68 in the first round of the playoffs. I lost by less than 11 points, which hurts even more because I left Pierre Thomas (2 TDs), Marques Colston (84 yards, TD), and Antonio Bryant (108 yards, TD) on the bench — a mistake I won’t make for the third-place game this weekend. At least I can take solace in the fact that my other team is up by more than 70 points in the first round and still has a defensive player left in the Monday night game.

  • My biggest fantasy football mistake this year: Picking up Lance Moore a couple weeks ago. Given how hot he was at the time (6 TDs in 5 weeks), I was surprised his owner cut him loose. But I guess the guy knew something I didn’t, because Moore proceeded to tank (24 yards in 2 weeks) after I picked him up and put him in my lineup, leaving the aforementioned trio of productive players on the bench.
  • If you are still alive in your league’s postseason, get Matt Schaub and start him. He has shown that he can put up at least solid numbers even against good teams, and that continued Sunday against the Titans (284 yards, TD). Now he gets the Raiders, who gave up four TD passes to Matt Cassel in a little more than a half of football yesterday.
  • Ever think you would see the Vikings put up 35 points and Adrian Peterson won’t get a single one? Blame it on Tavaris Jackson (4 TD passes) and the porous Cardinals defense, which couldn’t even tackle the Vikings receivers short of the end zone to set up a few Peterson carries.
  • Do yourself a favor and don’t start any offensive player against the Ravens. Baltimore has given up only 3 TDs in the last 4 games, while picking off 7 passes, allowing only one wideout to go over 80 yards receiving, and giving up no more than 47 yards rushing to any running back in that span, which is impressive considering they went up against Brian Westbrook, Clinton Portis, and Willie Parker in three of those four games.
