Today was our last day in Massachusetts. We drove out to Newport, Rhode Island, in the afternoon to check out one of the huge mansions there — The Breakers. It was an impressive mansion, loaded with extravagant, just-for-the-heck-of-it-because-I-can decor. This is the second such house I’ve toured this year, joining Vizcaya in Miami. The house was situated right on the cliff overlooking the ocean, making for an awe-inspiring view from any window on the back side of the house. The grounds were extensive and very beautiful, even as winter approaches. I could’ve spent a whole day walking around and taking pictures. Unfortunately, no photography was allowed inside the mansion.

After visiting the mansion, we walked around the waterfront shops in Newport. The place must be really cool in the summer, but on the first day of December, it was cold and windy, so we didn’t stay too long.
