USEFUL RESOURCES FOR SOME, USELESS RANTS FOR OTHERS

Now This Is Just Getting Stupid

The UNC-N.C. State football game is tomorrow, and that means pranks on both sides. In February, State fans splashed red paint on UNC’s Old Well before a basketball game between the schools. This week, members of UNC’s Carolina Fever painted N.C. State’s Free Expression Tunnel blue. So in retaliation, State fans spray-painted pro-Wolfpack phrases and profanities on brick paths at UNC last night. So in response, Carolina Fever has recruited more than 600 people to stand guard over the Old Well tonight from 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. to deny vandals the chance to deface the UNC symbol. They are even hoping to turn it into a tradition.

To which I have just one thought: It’s great that you’re getting hundreds of people to come guard the Old Well. And while you’re busy doing that, State fans might be busy spray-painting the Bell Tower, pruning Davie Poplar, knocking over Silent Sam, or defacing any one of a thousand places left unguarded on campus. And as for turning the Old Well Watch into a tradition, what happens next year if State fans just move up their vandalism to two nights before the game instead of one? Or to the weekend before? How many nights are you going to be able to stand guard over all the UNC landmarks?
