Monday Morning H-Back, October 20

Brandon Marshall needs to catch about three touchdowns for me tonight.
Another week, another game against the week’s top-scoring team in one of my leagues. I think this would be the second or third time that has happened to me in that league. Meanwhile, the league leader is going to pull out a win despite scoring 59 points. 59! I still have a shot at pulling out a win, but will need 32 points from Brandon Marshall and Matt Praeter tonight. Possible, but not probable. I’ll probably end up posting the second or third highest score of the week, but will drop to 4-3. The news is much better in my other league, where I’m up by 20 and have Marshall, Praeter and Wes Welker playing tonight.
- I probably would still have a realistic shot at pulling out a win in my first league if my opponent didn’t have Calvin Johnson. One moment, he’s being kept in check. The next moment, NFL.com’s Game Center refreshes and he’s got 96 more yards and a touchdown. We are talking about around 12 points on one play! Thanks, Texans defense.
- I love 49ers quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan’s line from the last four games. He hasn’t thrown fewer than 28 passes in any games in that stretch, and has thrown at least two interceptions in every one of those games. In the four-game stretch, he has thrown five TDs and nine INTs. It’s depressingly hilarious to watch a team trot out an obviously overmatched QB and have no choice but to have him keep chucking the ball in the air. What Mike Martz won’t give for Kurt Warner or even Jon Kitna right now.
- Giants RB Brandon Jacobs hasn’t been posting gaudy yardage numbers, but he’s been on a serious touchdown roll, with six in the last four games. And of course, I’ve had the great fortune of playing against him in two of the games in which he has run for 2 TDs.
- Steven Jackson looks like he’s turning it around after a slow start. He’s averaged 116 rushing yards in the last three games and scored four TDs after averaging just 53 yards and being shut out of the end zone in the first three games.
- As a Reggie Wayne owner, I’m hoping Peyton Manning finds his bearings soon. Sunday’s line (21-of-42, 229 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs) is about as bad as I’ve seen from him in a while, and he has his lowest QB rating (80.0) since his rookie season.
