I am in complete agreement. I am a 20 year Trib reader (who has cancelled his subscription) who believes that there was no research done. This was strickly an economic decision. Although I can appreciate the necessity to improve margins, creating a one section paper is ridiculously out of touch with the readership. Reading a paper with your significant other is a shared literary event.
